• TYPE LOCALITY. "Insel Kreta" [Amasya, Turkey]. The type locality as given in the original description is wrong.

• RANGE. S. Europe (the Balkan Peninsula), Asia Minor to the Middle East, Iran and Turkey to Transcaucasia.

• DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The Transcaucasian region (Armenian Highland, Talysh Mts.) is inhabited by the ssp. armeniaca Christoph, 1893.

• HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Various types of xerophytic vegetation up to 2,000 m a.s.1. in the mountains. Flight period: April-July. Host plants: Sisymbrium bilobum, Microthlaspi umbellatum (Effendi, 1984; Back, 1984, 1985).

• SIMILAR SPECIES. A. cardamines: larger; UPF red spot not bordered inwardly by black colour; in females, UPF discal spot small and sharply defined, confined to the cell. A. damone (female): UPF apical dark area with deep white marks; discal spot sharply defined.
