• TYPE LOCALITY. "Bai Possiet und port Bruce" [Posiet, Khasan distr., Ussuri region].

• RANGE. E. China to the Amurland.

• DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The Ussuri region. Individual variation in size and white pattern (size and intensity of spots) on both sides of the wings is great. The smallest form (sized as M. tessellum) has been described as the aberration minor Mabille, 1909.

• HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Preferring humid sites, forest edges and openings, grassy slopes near sea-shore. Flight period: July-August. Host plant: unknown, presumably Phlomoides maximowiczii.

• SIMILAR SPECIES. M. tessellum, M. protheon: smaller, UPS and UNS ground colour lighter, spotting complete.
